Position Description
We are looking for a Data Engineer to establish and scale our data practice from it’s humble beginnings. This role will be foundational in shaping how we leverage data to drive business insights and product innovation. You’ll own the design and implementation of our data infrastructure, enabling analytics, product telemetry, and intelligence across our platform. As one of the first members of the data team, you’ll work with other engineers, product, and go-to-market teams to define data models, standardize pipelines, and introduce best practices in observability, governance, and data quality. This is a high-impact opportunity to build something that will influence how we understand and optimizes its business for years to come.

About You
You’re an experienced data engineer who thrives in greenfield environments and ambiguity. You take pride in crafting reliable, scalable, and elegant data pipelines that make complex data simple to use. You have strong opinions about data architecture but remain pragmatic — shipping iteratively against a vision. You’re motivated by solving hard problems that directly impact customer experience and internal efficiency. You’re excited by Orderful’s mission to modernize global supply chain connectivity and eager to contribute your expertise to help us scale.

Your Primary Responsibilities
● Design and Implement Data Infrastructure – Build and manage data pipelines, warehouses, and integrations that support analytics, monitoring, and business intelligence needs.
● Ensure Data Quality and Observability – Implement robust validation, testing, and monitoring frameworks to guarantee reliable data.
● Enable Analytics and Insights – Develop and maintain data models that power dashboards, experimentation, and KPI tracking.
● Champion Best Practices – Drive data engineering standards, documentation, and mentorship as the practice grows.

Qualifications
● 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role in a data-intensive environment.
● Proven track record building scalable data pipelines using modern tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Fivetran, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
● Proficiency in SQL and a programming language like Python or Scala.
● Experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and data warehousing best practices.
● Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code principles.
● Familiarity with streaming or event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.) is a plus.
● Comfort working in start-up or early-stage environments, setting foundations and processes where none exist. ● Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you can translate complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
