Technical Presales Engineer

AI Infrastructure, Cloud Platforms & Technical Solutions

About the Role

We are looking for a technically strong, commercially minded Technical Presales Engineer to work at the intersection of software engineering, solution architecture, and customer engagement.

This role combines technical presales, solution design, proof-of-concept development, and hands-on engineering. You will work with prospective and existing clients to understand their technical challenges, explore potential solutions, and demonstrate how our technology can address their needs.

You will help translate complex technical capabilities into clear, compelling solutions for customers, working closely with engineering and commercial teams throughout the sales process. This will include discovery sessions, technical presentations, architecture discussions, product demonstrations, and the development of prototypes or proofs of concept where needed.

Our technology spans modern cloud-native applications, AI infrastructure, software platforms, and systems designed to improve the visibility, governance, and auditability of complex workflows, including those executed by AI agents.

Our primary technology stack includes Go, Python, TypeScript, AWS, and Kubernetes, although we are open to candidates with experience across complementary technologies.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys engaging with customers, solving complex technical problems, and using their engineering expertise to help shape solutions and influence product direction. The role will also involve contributing to product development and client assignments where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Presales & Customer Engagement

  • Work with prospective and existing customers to understand their business objectives, technical requirements, and infrastructure challenges.

  • Lead or support technical discovery sessions, requirements gathering, and solution scoping.

  • Translate customer needs into practical technical solutions, explaining the architecture, capabilities, benefits, and trade-offs involved.

  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and architecture walkthroughs to technical audiences, including software engineers, architects, and technology leaders.

  • Support the commercial team throughout the sales cycle, providing the technical insight needed to qualify opportunities and build customer confidence.

  • Respond to technical questions, assess feasibility, and help customers understand how solutions can integrate with their existing environments.

  • Develop technical proposals, solution outlines, architecture diagrams, and supporting documentation.

  • Identify opportunities to expand customer engagement through additional use cases, integrations, and platform capabilities.

Solution Architecture & Proofs of Concept

  • Design and demonstrate solutions that address specific customer requirements and use cases.

  • Build prototypes, technical demonstrations, and proofs of concept to validate feasibility and showcase product capabilities.

  • Work with APIs, cloud services, integrations, and infrastructure components to demonstrate how solutions operate in real-world environments.

  • Evaluate technical constraints, integration requirements, security considerations, and deployment options.

  • Help customers assess cloud-hosted versus self-hosted deployment approaches where relevant.

  • Validate assumptions and identify potential implementation risks before projects move into delivery.

  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions are technically sound, scalable, secure, and maintainable.

AI Infrastructure & Emerging Technologies

  • Help customers understand the opportunities and challenges associated with AI-enabled systems, agentic workflows, and emerging AI infrastructure.

  • Demonstrate how organisations can improve the visibility, governance, traceability, and auditability of complex workflows executed by AI agents.

  • Explain relevant approaches to authentication, identity, authorisation, data lineage, and operational oversight.

  • Explore customer use cases involving AI-assisted software development, agentic engineering, workflow orchestration, and software lifecycle management.

  • Stay informed about developments in AI infrastructure, cloud-native architecture, and enterprise technology, identifying opportunities to apply them to customer problems.

  • Feed customer insights and emerging requirements back into product strategy and engineering priorities.

Hands-on Engineering & Technical Delivery

  • Contribute to the development of prototypes, integrations, internal tooling, and product features that support customer demonstrations and technical validation.

  • Use technologies such as Go, Python, and TypeScript to build working solutions where appropriate.

  • Work with AWS, Kubernetes, containers, APIs, and related infrastructure to demonstrate deployment and integration scenarios.

  • Support the transition from successful proofs of concept into implementation, working with engineering and delivery teams to ensure continuity.

  • Contribute to product development and client consulting assignments as business needs arise.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and help resolve complex customer challenges.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with sales, product, and engineering teams to align technical solutions with customer requirements and commercial objectives.

  • Act as a bridge between customer-facing teams and software engineers, translating customer feedback into actionable technical requirements.

  • Contribute to technical sales materials, demonstrations, reference architectures, and reusable solution assets.

  • Help refine product positioning by identifying customer pain points, common objections, and differentiating technical capabilities.

  • Where relevant, participate in open-source initiatives and technical communities, including discussions and projects associated with the Linux Foundation.

Technical Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with a strong technical foundation who can engage credibly with engineers and architects while communicating effectively with a broader business audience.

Software development

  • Experience with one or more of Go, Python, and TypeScript.

  • Ability to read, understand, and modify code, and to build working prototypes or proofs of concept.

  • Familiarity with APIs, integrations, databases, and modern application architectures.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and an understanding of production-quality development practices.

Cloud & infrastructure

  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.

  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native application deployment.

  • Understanding of networking, security, identity, and system integration concepts.

  • Ability to discuss deployment architectures, infrastructure requirements, and operational considerations with technical stakeholders.

Technical presales & solution design

  • Experience participating in customer discovery, technical demonstrations, solution design, or proof-of-concept engagements.

  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into credible technical architectures.

  • Strong presentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Confidence engaging with technical decision-makers, architects, developers, and senior stakeholders.

  • The ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly without oversimplifying the underlying engineering.

We are open to candidates coming from a software engineering, solutions engineering, sales engineering, technical consulting, or solution architecture background. Direct presales experience is valuable, but strong engineers with excellent communication skills and an interest in customer-facing work are also encouraged to apply.

What We're Looking For

  • A technically credible engineer who enjoys working directly with customers.

  • A consultative mindset, with the ability to ask good questions and uncover the underlying problem rather than jumping immediately to a solution.

  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how technical decisions support customer outcomes and business objectives.

  • The ability to move comfortably between customer conversations, architecture discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on coding.

  • Confidence presenting technical solutions and responding to challenging questions.

  • A pragmatic approach to solution design, balancing customer requirements with feasibility, complexity, security, and maintainability.

  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate across commercial and engineering teams.

  • Curiosity about AI, cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and emerging enterprise technologies.

Experience in a startup, technology consultancy, software product company, or technical presales environment would be an advantage.
