Founding Staff SW Engineer

Remote, Canada
Founding Staff Software Engineer

Get in on the ground floor of our new R&D office!
Over time, our office will grow into a pillar of the technology community in Toronto. We want to attract thought leaders, who are passionate about solving engineering problems, to form the foundation of our team. Being a founding engineer means that you’ll have a high degree of impact and autonomy on how the engineering team and culture grows in Toronto.

Who You Are
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will leverage your demonstrated ability to own and lead the
implementation of features in large-scale, distributed applications to support the long term growth. You
understand the concept of “separation of concerns” and have leveraged design patterns to solve technical challenges.

You are eager to learn and passionate about improvement. You spend significant amounts of time directly assisting and leveling up other engineers. You look for signals in the noise and can mitigate potential issues before they become problems.
You will work closely with senior engineers to scope, design, and build new features and functionality in this area. As a staff engineer, your responsibilities also include coordinating and participating in engineering efforts across teams, including scalability, performance, and modularization efforts. You will work primarily in Ruby on Rails and/or JavaScript/React, but may employ other technologies where appropriate.

You should have a deep understanding of technology that goes beyond the ability to use these tools.

What You Will Work On
● Work collaboratively with other engineers, product managers, and designers
● Lead complex projects or changes that will benefit the entire organization
● Keep our code healthy and follow good practices, and motivate other engineers to do the same
● Provide guidance and support growth in other engineers across multiple teams
● Build features and functionality that our customers use directly, typically in an iterative fashion taking into account user feedback
