Data Governance Lead

Data Governance Lead – 12 month contract

The Data Governance will help establish and manage our company's data governance framework from scratch. This role is crucial in ensuring the proper handling, storage, and usage of data in compliance with industry regulations. The candidate will develop and enforce data governance policies, manage data integrity, and ensure adherence to best practices. She also must be able to engage multiple stakeholders, set up actionable items, and implement necessary policies and procedures within a short period of time

Major Responsibilities
 
  • Develop and Implement Data Governance Framework:
    • Design Data Governance Strategy:
      • Develop a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business objectives.
      • Create a roadmap for implementing data governance policies and procedures.
    • Policy Development:
      • Draft, review, and update data governance policies, standards, and guidelines.
      • Ensure policies cover data privacy, security, quality, and lifecycle management.
      • Framework Implementation:
      • Establish a data governance council or committee comprising key stakeholders.
      • Define roles and responsibilities for data stewardship and data management.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Regulation Understanding:
      • Research and interpret relevant data protection regulations, including GDPR, HIPAA, and other pharmaceutical-specific regulations.
    • Policy Enforcement:
      • Ensure all data governance policies comply with local, national, and international regulations.
      • Develop processes to audit and monitor compliance regularly.
    • Risk Management:
      • Identify data governance risks and implement mitigation strategies.
      • Ensure data governance practices are integrated into risk management and internal control frameworks.
    • Data Management:
      • Data Inventory and Classification:
      • Conduct data inventory assessments to identify and classify critical data elements.
      • Maintain an up-to-date data catalog or inventory.
    • Data Ownership:
      • Define and assign data ownership roles and responsibilities.
      • Establish accountability for data quality and integrity among data stewards.
    • Data Retention and Disposal:
      • Define and implement data retention policies based on legal and business requirements.
      • Develop and enforce data purging and archiving procedures to manage data lifecycle.
  • Data Quality and Integrity:
    • Data Quality Metrics:
      • Develop metrics and KPIs to measure data quality, such as accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
      • Implement data quality monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
    • Data Cleansing:
      • Establish processes for data cleansing and standardization.
      • Implement tools and techniques to identify and rectify data quality issues.
    • Data Integrity:
      • Ensure data integrity through robust validation and verification processes.
      • Implement data reconciliation processes to maintain data consistency across systems.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
      • Work with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to ensure alignment and integration of data governance policies.
      • Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to promote a culture of data governance.
    • Training and Support:
      • Develop and deliver training programs on data governance policies and best practices.
      • Provide ongoing support and guidance to data stewards and other stakeholders.
  • Data Governance Tools and Technologies:
    • Tool Selection and Implementation:
      • Evaluate, select, and implement data governance tools and technologies that support data cataloging, data quality, and data lineage tracking.
    • System Integration:
      • Ensure data governance tools are integrated with existing IT systems and processes.
      • Collaborate with IT to manage the technical aspects of data governance tool implementation.
    • Monitoring and Maintenance:
      • Monitor the performance of data governance tools and make necessary adjustments.
      • Ensure tools are regularly updated and maintained to meet evolving data governance needs.


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management Data Science  or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), or equivalent are a plus.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Industry Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field.
    • Proven experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related regulatory environment is highly desirable.
  • Leadership Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience in leading data governance initiatives and managing cross-functional teams.
    • Proven track record of establishing and implementing data governance frameworks from scratch.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical distribution regulations, data protection laws, and compliance requirements.
    • Experience in ensuring organizational adherence to relevant regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies, such as data cataloging, data quality, and data lineage tracking tools.
    • Experience in selecting, implementing, and managing data governance tools and technologies.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop data quality metrics and monitor data integrity.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience in training and supporting staff on data governance best practices.
