QA Automation Engineer

Our client is the first and largest peer-to-peer marketplace driven to change how the world views laundry.   Their customers tap the app and outsource their laundry. For them, it’s life without laundry, because it was hacked out of existence. They solve a second problem too, which is that more and more people of varying backgrounds want to work from home. Luckily most people have an underutilized washer/dryer, which when combined with their Laundry Pro app, provides the first-ever manual labor work-from-home gig in the world.

Perfect product market fit drove a 100x surge in users & revenue and double-digit MoM growth over the past few years. In 2021 they scaled to 500+ markets throughout the United States. In March 2022 they closed a $10m seed round which included VC investments from Headline, Origin Ventures, Starting Line VC, Ludlow Ventures, and Clean Ventures, as well as notable angel investments from some of Silicon Valley’s most successful founders. Rocket growth continued in 2022 and 2023.

You won’t just “test our app”—you’ll break it, bend it, push it to its limits, and then automate it all to make sure we never let a bug slip through the cracks. Your role will be to build automated testing environments that do more than just catch mistakes—they’ll predict them before they even happen. You’ll be the hero behind the scenes, making sure that when our product hits the spotlight, it’s flawless.

What you will do:
  • Architect Magic: Design, code, and maintain automated test scripts that’ll transform manual, repetitive work into efficient, error-proof systems.
  • Break the Rules (Smartly): Challenge our developers to think ahead by running code through a gauntlet of tests that simulate the most unpredictable real-world scenarios.
  • Team Up: Work closely with our product managers, engineers, and designers to understand the intricate details of every feature and define test strategies. Your feedback will shape how we approach quality from day one.
  • Keep the Wheels Turning: Integrate your automated tests with our CI/CD pipeline so we can deliver fast without sacrificing an ounce of quality.
  • See Beyond Bugs: We don’t just want someone to find issues—we want someone who anticipates problems before they even become problems. Root cause analysis is your superpower.
  • Make Us Faster, Smarter: Continuously improve our testing processes, finding new ways to automate, streamline, and ensure quality at speed.
  • Protect the past. Perform regression testing and validate fixes for reported issues.
  • Track defects. Identify, document, and track defects using a defect tracking tool.

What You’ll Bring to the Table
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience automating tests for both front-end and back-end systems.
  • A talent for writing test scripts in Typescript.
  • Experience with common client and server testing tools (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Jest)
  • Analyze test results, report findings, and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability and code quality
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, using tools like Jenkins or GitLab to keep things moving swiftly.
  • The ability to see the matrix in the SDLC, understanding Agile, Scrum, and how to fit QA seamlessly into the flow.
  • A knack for collaboration and communication—you speak both "engineer" and "non-engineer" fluently.
  • Skills in testing mobile apps—because our users are everywhere.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-directed, driven, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments.
  • You love to build new things. You care about innovation.
  • Self-motivated and a desire to work in a high velocity, async environment.
  • Work schedule that allows for a 9am Central Time standup and overlaps with Central Standard Time by 5 hours

Bonus Points if You Also Have
  • Experience in performance testing, making sure our systems handle anything we throw at them.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools like Postman or REST Assured (you love a good challenge).
  • Knowledge of cloud environments and containers (AWS, GCP. Docker, Cloud Functions, Firebase).
