Job Description

So, what will your new role look like?

As the Director of Software Development, you will play a key role in leading and managing our software development practices for one or multiple products in the product portfolio to deliver best-in-class products and to drive innovation within the company. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of development managers and software engineers, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful execution of software development projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of 5-6 development managers and software engineers, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure their success and professional growth.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans, roadmaps, and initiatives to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and deliver high-quality software products that meet customer needs and business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other cross-functional teams to define product requirements, prioritize features, and ensure alignment with company goals and market demands.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from concept and design to implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring adherence to best practices, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation within the software development organization, encouraging experimentation, knowledge sharing, and learning.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance development processes, increase productivity, and drive innovation across the organization.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, vendors, and contractors as needed to support software development projects and initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and project status to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions to optimize software development processes and outcomes.

     
A typical week?

As the Director of Software Development, your week will be dynamic and multifaceted, filled with strategic planning, people management, budget reviews and cross-functional collaboration. Specifically, this includes meeting with your leadership team to align on short- and long-term objectives, review operational metrics, 1:1s with your direct reports to discuss progress updates, blockers teams may be facing, and performance reviews. There should also be weekly discussions with cross collaborators to go over upcoming features, client feedback and explore potential strategic partnerships.

Qualifications
 
  • Ability to showcase influential leadership;
  • Technical proficiency and should have a solid understanding of software development processes and industry best practices;
  • Experience leading a team of minimum 5 Software Development Managers;
  • Proficiency in data analysis to make data-driven decisions;
  • Strong cross-collaboration experience with executives from other departments such as Director and VP of Product;
  • Extensive experience with building and leading roadmaps;
  • Strategic thinking to improve efficiency and meeting business objectives;
  • Clear and concise communication skills with an ability to adapt to your audience;
  • Track record demonstrating a positive impact on team Building and talent development;
  • SaaS industry experience. Ideally from 2 different software companies;
  • Minimum 3-4 years' experience in a similar role.
